MetroHero: WMATA DC Metrorail Description

MetroHero is the free app you need AND the one you deserve, designed specifically for commuters, by commuters. Visualize the real-time position of every Metrorail train to get the clearest picture of the current state of the entire DC Metro system. Watch trains move down the tracks and be alerted to potential problem areas with delay heatmaps and crowd-sourced reports for stations and individual trains. We can even show you expanded arrival times for trains that aren't listed on WMATA's station boards.

Here are just some of the features MetroHero offers:
* REAL-TIME TRACKING: watch trains travel to and from stations--live!
* DELAY HEATMAPS: see exactly where to expect congestion, slowdowns and delays based on recent train activity
* CURRENT HEADWAYS: view metrics about active revenue trains, the entire rail system, or just the lines you care about
* CROWDSOURCED REPORTING SYSTEM: help other MetroHero users avoid headaches or give them a heads-up when things are going right by tagging stations and trains
* TWITTER UPDATES: see recent tweets about station problems from official WMATA Twitter accounts and other riders
* PER-STATION REPORTS: drill into specific stations to get train ETAs and other details
* AUTOMATIC UPDATES: no need to swipe to refresh what you see; it's always up-to-date!
Ads can be permanently removed by making a small donation of 99 cents. Simply tap the white shopping cart icon in the bottom-right corner of the app. 100% of donations and ad revenue go directly towards offsetting the cost of keeping our servers running.
Explanation of Permissions:
* In-app purchases: this enables the ad-disabling donation feature mentioned above
* Location: we need a general idea of where you are to show you the closest station to your current location for your convenience

Doyle Bays: Amazing app Useful app that makes scheduling metro travel much faster.

Adam Christensen: Provides an amazing view of real-time train info!

Erin Rankin: Use it almost daily Before heading out the door.

: Great Works like Uber for metro!

Maria Elena Francovig: Very accurate

Murali Gorantla: Accurate Accurate

Steven White: I like what I've been able to use, but suspect there are functions I know nothing about. I wish apps had a tutorial mode. [EDIT] how nice, Hodgepig responded within the same day and provided a link to their page that explained all their features. That's some great customer service.

Per S: A truly great application (for a portable device and on one's computer). It has changed my entire experience as a Metro rider and customer. Before MetroHero, I had access to only the tiny bit of information that Metro gives to its riders, and was largely in the dark, and deeply frustrated. Now it is as if the light has finally been switched on by these two lovely people, and I can't express my gratitude enough. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your wonderful work!

Luqman Mahmud: The only real time metro app! Best app for figuring out where the hell the train is and is metro on fire today.

Ross Fenton: The best Great tool to keep in the know.

Meiran C: Easy to understand, clear information. If you are a frequent commuter on metro it's a requirement. And it will only get better the more people use it and enter extra train info. Update 9/20/16: I was holding out hope that the change to a hybrid app would be okay. The developers are very responsive to complaints, but at the same time since the change the load times for the app have rendered it unusable. And it ferls like you need a better cell connection to get any information than you used to need, which means in underground stations (most of the system) it just never loads. I never had an issue loading it at the Federal Triangle platform before but now it only works half the time. Not being able to reliably use Metro Hero anymore is a huge bummer, I had just paid to remove the ads, and used to recommend it to friends and coworkers constantly. I hope with customer feedback they can ditch the bells and whistles and bring it back to the fast, reliable, useful app that it was.

Matthew Windsor: No Longer an App The move away from native app status to a glorified webpage front-end has really degraded what was the best Metro app. The whole thing is much slower and the redesign had made information much harder to access. Worst of all, the "offline mode" doesn't work at all. Without a data connection, I can't even get the system map to load.

Haley Dunn: Get This App DC Metro is not super reliable, but this app is. Easy to use and very accurate in terms of real time estimates for trains. I use the live map feature the most.

Stuart Shave: Head and shoulders above the rest This app is so unique and yet so incredibly approachable. I have little faith in the information directly from WMATA, but feel incredibly informed when I view that data after its been through this interface. I really appreciate the great work of the devs, who have continued to listen to feedback and refine this experience. Absolutely worth the paid version to support them. Keep up the good work!

Bruce Conward: Almost there... Great app! But doesn't work at all in underground stations. Regrettably I have to say most of my stops are underground. Red line from shady Grove to McPherson Sq and back everyday. Oh! If it showed which platform the train would arrive on... I would pay money for that:)

Matthew Karns: Best metro app The app is the best available. The devs are also very responsive and constantly fixing things

Erik Gray: Great reference Useful, easy to read.

Jason Cornish: It's good. Just wished it worked offline like Embark metro app...

Nick Moats: Awesome

Ed Kummel: Why did you ruin this app? This latest update completely ruined what was a good thing. An easy to read and understand app is now confusing and difficult to use. The menu headers don't line up and have no meaning to what's under them. When trying to use the thumbs up or down, everything's greyed out. What only took 1 or 2 screens to get info, has now turned into a scavenger hunt with no guarantee that the info your looking for will actually be there. The app used be professional, now it's a 12 year old MySpace page.

Marc Moshman: Great to get live status It's great to get live status of trains coming your way, and also really nice to get the metro map easily without having to find it in the car and get around the people blocking it. I haven't tested it in a place with no Wi-Fi or data signal yet.

Neil Stein: The only app to show the most accurate real time information.

: Its okay

Matthew Myers: New version is an issue Last up date makes it so the app has to have a connection to open. super perfect for an underground metro system. sometimes I just want to look at the map. Was 5 stars, now I'm uninstalling. Best app I've found as a new arrival to help navigate the metro

Dominic Demure: Don't like the web wrapper idea Version 2.0 takes too long to load and wrapper/hybrid removed the beloved darkmode. The hybrid app has an option to install the app in the sidebar even though i am using the app. Still great on prediction but the app isn't what it use to be so decided to uninstall and just use chrome with the website instead as they are essentially the same and seems faster.

Lin Mao: Super Useful Fast to load. Quickly see station stats based on colored lines. Very user friendly. Use it daily.

Justin Roberts: Best app for metro by far I love the dashboard! Keep up the great updates ^_^

Jesse Hickman: Sigh web wrapper... Web wrapper is a step backwards at this point. It's significantly slower than the native app previously.

Anish Chandran: Good one UI looks really cool and innovative.

: Great App. with and on time schedule. Great Ride.

Tim Stark: Great app!

Susan DC: Lives up to its name! I ride Metro every day, and I've tried all the other apps. This one is the best by far! Accurate, easy to use, and the live track view enables you to figure your arrival time at your destination, removing a lot of the doubt and guesswork inherent in Metro travel these days. Priceless! Ads are small and don't bother me at all.

Richard Ezike: Great and Useful App! Love the app! Provides details on delayed trains, which is extremely important. I combine this with Citymapper to plan my trips on the system. Like a couple of others mentioned in their reviews, if they could figure out how to predict departure times from terminal stations (which may require getting access to Rail Operation Control Center data or developing some algorithm to predict those times based on other train positions) this app would be perfect. Maybe you could help Metro figure that out!

Joseph DeGraff: Great new app with fresh ideas Bought the ad free version almost immediately. Has great potential with more users. Very user friendly and fresh ideas. Great to use when safe track is on! The inclusion of information from Twitter is amazing

Jerrod Schultz: Love it! I wish I had known about this app sooner. I didn't hesitate to donate to the cause. The only feedback I have is that the trains disappear after leaving Dunn Loring on their way to Vienna, leaving us not knowing there is a train on the way!

Christina Wiatrowski: So helpful This app is so helpful for riders who board at end-of-line stations, where the PID displays don't show train ETAs. Now I can see where all trains are on my line and make a more educated guess as to when one will be departing my station. Thanks Metro Hero - you're my commute's hero!

Michelle Hsu: Very Informative! The notifications are very accurate. Whenever there's a delay or breakdown on any line, you get the info right away. The app is easy to use and navigate.

Davin Peterson: Great app. Only app that displays a real time map. Useful to see where trains are in real time especially when the station PID signs are inaccurate or not working. Also, we can know about delays.

Lara Santiago: Awesome I rarely review apps, but this one made me want to spend the time to say it's AWESOME. I have all the other apps for DC public transportation, this is way superior!

Justin K: Fantastic App I've installed and deleted countless apps for the metro. This one is almost perfect! A quick glossary might be nice, some of the terms were a bit technical for a novice like me.
