Coverage Map Details
Our CoverageMap app empowers you to test network performance in areas where you live, work, and play. Not only does testing performance in your neighborhood provide you with useful insights, but the data you produce also helps carriers improve the quality of your mobile life. The newest version of the app for Android has expanded the functionality and ease of use found in previous versions to give you a personal network testing and comparison tool that’s better than ever. And whether you’re already familiar with our Coverage Map app or simply curious about testing mobile network performance in your neighborhood, you’ll quickly see how easy it is to get started.
New features:
• Improved user interface. Our updated app not only boasts a beautiful new user interface, but it also makes it easy to find and select the options and settings you want to use before running a test. Plus, easily identify areas that have yet to be tested, and be the first to put yourself on the map.
• A world of results on an expanded dashboard. Your test results can tell you a great deal about your daily mobile life. Get a broader understanding of your findings with new stats such as moving averages, histories, and more.
• Personalize your results. Wondering how performance with your carrier of choice compares between the office and at home? Now you can find out. Easily select multiple hexes on the map to compare your results, and find out if others are having the same experience.
• Test how you want, when you want. Set your device to automatically run performance tests continuously, or sample network conditions in the background. Stop a test at any time with either setting. When you turn background collection on, you anonymously contribute information about your device’s data performance without using your data plan.
• We want to hear from you. While we love to see more and more data points appear on the map, you can also tell us about your experience in your own words. Whether it’s something you feel requires our attention, or you just want to say you’ve had a great experience testing performance, we want to hear from you.

A. van Hulsen: Continuous testing no longer continuous Before one could test for up to 4 hours on end but with this latest update the continuous test is only able to do up to 21 cycles. Please bring back the 4 hours option or add TRUE continuous testing without any limitation. With the current 21 cycles max the app has dropped down from 5/5 to 2/5 stars as I cannot leave it making continuous measurements unattended. PS the background collections don't offer full continuous scanning either so no cigar there, either..

Todd Marimon: Very well done app This company, and their app, work very well for their data collection of performance. It runs in the background, inferring results from your other apps as they use the connection.

Yan Huang: Another terrible backwards "update" New interface is absolutely horrible. Almost everything about it is less functional and more annoying to use than the previous version. I've never understood the stupidity required for a company to feel compelled to "update" a perfectly functional peice of software into a broken, ugly pile of crap like this.

Andy Millard: I am rejecting the latest update because it is requesting permission to access my photos. There is no obvious need for such permission in a signal coverage app, and no explanation in the notes to justify it.

Dustin Humann: Uninstalling Until they update their app to use the new permissions requests. I want to know when and why it's requesting permission to my files, among other things.

: Continous test 4 hours of testing was nice to have, now it's only 21 tests? Not safe for driving!

Ian S: No longer works Get failed results even though phone has a strong signal and other speed test apps work. Also no longer has continuous testing feature.

Chava Gonzalez: Update doesnt work Continous testing does not work, gives me fail after only 4 cycloes even though i have have good signal

Allen Dindial: My data points are not showing up I was in an area that was still 2G/3G according to the map, but I drove there last weekend and and had all LTE. Still not ont the map.

Ki Min Bang: Up to date was down to date. Except interface design, everything gets worse. Please bring back older version.

Nigel Coldwell: Permission! You can not have access to my media files.

Adam Bower: Great for research A great app if you're shopping for carriers for a new phone!

Ryan M: What a downgrade! This last update was terrible!

Isaac McDonald: T-Mobile testing Using this app does not count against your your monthly data allotment on T-Mobile so test away!

Anthony Straight: This app and the online web site have been handy for some planning, and quite a bargain for free. I would like to see some definite indication of what the app is doing. I have attempted to map several routes with no apparent results before figuring out, by experiment, how the app works. It is not easily apparent whether the app is set up properly or working at all.

Da S: Works nicely in rhe background The app starts when I turn my phone on and does testing in the background. It's cool to see where on the map there had been no data the day before but now you can see where you had been and what you have contributed.

: !!!! In my area, 17881 Verizon is the ONLY one that has 4G LTE and awesome speeds. The others. AT&T average = 2.56 mbps; Tmobile/Sprint = 0 coverage. So why does the map show bad for Verizon? Either nobody did the study or you don't accept the reports or haven't done any reports for years.

Laura Schnetzer: Great It confirmed what I knew but that was much appreciated. It's a little bit hard to understand at first. Could be more user friendly for non tech geeks. Also have a share in the app so it's easier to send to friends.

Craig Fazekas: Very good Works well. But it's a little slow to load the hexagons. Could also be an Offline map/data download. So when I'm in a zero signal area, I'll be able to find an area that has signal

Daniel Roberts: A lot of promise, but FLAWED. I keep wanting to like this app, but it has a MAJOR flaw: With tri-band LTE devices on Sprint (both Android and iOS), it erroneously reports -120dB for voice quality when connected to LTE, since the 1x side is not active. Sprint tri-band devices have been out for over THREE YEARS now, and I can't believe RootMetrics STILL hasn't fixed this! Industry analysts should NOT trust the RootMetrics reports if they are recording erroneous data like this!!!!

Rene Prado: Sold to Verizon! I get these perfect awesome readings from T-Mobile's network 100/30 just to get rejected and reported as bad tests. I can see root metrics cashing Verizon's checks all over the place.

Brad Boyle: Useless while roaming While roaming, the map should display all available networks. It displays nothing. Uninstalling...

Bartlomiej Gajda: Speed tests are inaccurate! Consistently slower speed tests than other speed test apps... No way to select test server your self!

Paul B.: TOO BUGGY, DATED UI. Please fix two bugs: One, where -dBm signal reading is no longer showing during speedtests. If you removed it, why? Then add a toggle so we can have it back. Two, speedtesting does not work (Nexus 5X, 6.0.1) for the uploads. Please comply with material design (there are still awkward gradients).

Richard Hamel: 'Coincidentally' loses GPS lock and refuses to use results every time a poor test is about to complete on AT&T. Runs 95% of the test just fine then suddenly and magically loses location data at the finish line, rendering the results inadmissible. Every time. Which carriers are financing this project?

Rachel Myers: Vital tool This is a extremely vital tool, a must have for all cell phone users. The proven and tested data needed to make an informed, unbias decision on carriers using actual real time testing done by consumers during their day to day life and sharing the results is genious. It is critical to know the information this app helps provide. It allows you to know if you are getting what you are charged for and how to better spend your money on a service you use daily.

Bryan Edwards: Bad information on data coverage If you select either 'Fastest speed found' or 'Best technology found' and look at an area of map that has been tested but that has no data connection it will display as 'Untested'

Lewis Pommells: Good but with some faults The app is very usefull, but frequently reports failed upload and download tests when data is available. This appears to be specific to the Galaxy S7, as other devices on the same network do not have this issue.

Justin Smith: The new interface is horrible It is hard to navigate, the continuous speedtest is worthless now and the coverage map is useless too now that we can only see specific dots.

Kasam: Good app Why is giff gaff not on this, i want to change sim but i want to see how good the coverage is with it ADD GIFF GAFF

-LSR- Winter: It's good I like this app but now with the LTE+ network going up now, this app could have an LTE+ indicator added to the legend. Cause I'm interested to know about Sprint's LTE+ locations. Not to mention Bell mobility LTE+ network

Michael Linhart: Excellent for choosing your carrier Pull up your home, work, family, friends, anywhere you frequent and find out which of the carriers have the best data and call performance... That's the carrier you should go with!

Carlos Chapa: Not very accurate This shows me wrong resolves on some stuff

Lyle Baer: Great Network Carrier Tester It shouldn't count towards data on T-Mobile or any other main carrier.

: Very good Despite what's been said, its very accurate for me

c cparc: My tracks are not updating For several years I used this application successfully. Recently it's not updating the map after days.

David Mathis: Sprint works as should but shows great connections yet I get a 2 mbps download...

Shaz aintnobodygottimefordat: Best signal testing app. Great network performance app, I use it everytime I'm outside of the house, it's awesome to see the changes in network performance on my carrier.

Thomas W: RootMetrics' app just doesn't measure up to the standard set by Sensorly and OpenSignal.

Terence Rabbers: Cool App But No Move To SD Support.
