Auto Brightness Switch Description

This application switches on or off auto brightness on Android 2.2+ phones. It saves the last manually set brightness level in order to return to that level when auto brightness is disabled.
This app is not a widget, so it won't show you the current setting visually, it won't take up extra memory, and it won't bog down your home screen.
You can also trigger it by holding down the search button (if any) on your phone.
Please email the developer with bugs or feedback. Auto Brightness Switch is open source and released under the GPL license. Patches and translations are welcome.

What's new in Auto Brightness Switch 1.3.0

1.3.0:
- Add support for Android 6 (Marshmallow) runtime permissions. When you run the app, it will prompt you to allow it to edit system settings. This is necessary to change brightness settings.

Xperia Arc S and Pro (other Xperias probably, too) came with optional on screen toggle, which in my case toggles between stronger (+auto off) and very dim (+auto on) backlight (very hard detectable). Which is both non-logical and useless. This app worked very good, and is lightweight. It really just switches auto on/off, leaving me to choose working levels. I don't know if it sorts bugs in original solution, makes it's own calculations, or something else, but the result is nice: brightness slowly changes when outer light changes. It is mild and sufficient. Just like it should be! Developer - thank You very much.

A Google User: :-( Worked perfect the first time I installed pn my Xperia neo V until I restarted my phone n boom.. didn't work a bit after restart. I uninstalled n then again installed but still nothing.. not working again no matter how many times I reinstall. :-( plz try fixing it for Xperia neo V bcoz auto-brightness is the only thing I hate about this phone.. :-( n moreover I dun wana root my phone and install that xda app cz i'l lose my warranty.. :-( n it worked the very first time so I wish it does again. Plz Andy B

A Google User: only works once Seems to only work once - after it turns off auto brightness it goes down to the previously set level, but turning it back on never seems to work - the screen stays at the same level until you go into Settings and toggle it. Also tried to find an e-mail address to report a bug to, but there's none in the description or readme on the developer's site. Seen on a TMo G2 running Gingerbread.

Steven McGinnis: Exactly what I wanted I didn't want some fancy program that automatically search brightness or one that had a zillion different features all this does is turn auto brightness on and off which is exactly what I wanted thank you so much it's perfect now I don't have to dig into my settings or my deep screens to find that setting I'm legally blind and this is a God send in bright sunlight

Nina Yee: My phone is samsung grand prime. Yea its an automatic brightness but it don't adjust the low automatic brightness or high automatic brightnes. It's brightnes is just stable not like those in samsung note or samsung grand 2. Can u explain why? Naah

John Doe: (Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 Lollipop) Does what it says, no special permissions, love it! P.S. If you can, please make it a widget instead of open a window as if it's an app, thanks!

A Google User: Would give it 5 stars if.. This toggle is the only one I've found that simply toggles auto-brightness on and off, with one click, no gradients. But, it misses a 5 because when clicking back to auto, sometimes it won't take effect until you turn off the screen. That's a bug. Hope it's fixed soon.

A Google User: Works good on Xperia Ray 2.3.4 ...But it'd be even more good if brightness level could increase a little bit faster, as when you take you phone out of a pocket a sunny day, it takes time before you can read the screen. Also, it'd be good if the brightness could decrease to and start from even 0%, as now it needs to be a step brighter than 0 for this app to start working. On Xperia Ray, a 0% is ideal for low light conditions, but in a lighter environment you need to revert it to some bigger value - not so handy, alas.

Jenn Smith: This app is a perfect complement to other apps like "All in One Gestures". Now when it's bright out and I cannot see the screen, I just swipe the screen edge to toggle auto-brightness.

Diana Nix: Thank you! HTC Amaze-EXACTLY what I was looking for. No wonky permissions, no ads, just turns on and off my auto brightness...in a very tiny package. Perfect.

marc perkel: Love it Was looking for something simple to turn on/off auto brightness. Wish it had a widget so icon would show on and off.

A Google User: Quick fix for annoying little problem -- Thanks! Accidentally turned on "auto brightness" on a phone that doesn't support this feature. The support board for the ROM I flashed said to run this to fix it, and it worked like a charm.

A Google User: Perfect! Exactly what I needed. You don't even need the widget since the search button controls the brightness level. Awesome.

A Google User: My Review Please work i dont think its been workin on my Huawei.. My Huawei does not have an auto brightness switch built in my phone.

A Google User: As good as it gets This app is perfect for my needs. The slight delay in auto-brightness level is a stock limitation, not a fault with the app itself.

A Google User: Simple! This brightness app saves me several annoying menu steps to do what ought to be on the Verizon S3's widget bar... thanks! :-)

A Google User: Successfully toggles autobrightness but.. Doesn't automatically change the brightness, atleast on evo 3d

Yves Santos: Great Great app! Nothing to say no more! Fix my auto brightness problem in just a click!

A Google User: not working on Acer Iconia A210 4.0.4 Sorry, but I can't get it work on my Iconia A210 (just updated on ICS 4.0.4). It doesn't switch auto brightness on, it just changes the brightness state to the previous by going in OFF?!? Strange...

A Google User: Just what I wanted. Thanks for a great app. Is there a way to trigger it by holding down the Back key instead of the Search key?

A Google User: Sony Xperia Ion Worked at first but later didn't work at all. Please fix for Sony Xperia Ion!!

miguel prieto: Great and awesome Does exactly what it says it'll do. I was using cyanogenmod 9 and auto brightness got turned on and couldn't turn it off. This app did just that. Helps when using the S3 in a car. Also have it on my home screen to quickly switch state manually. Thanks for a great app.

A Google User: It doesn't work I am using xperia neo and the app is not working at all.

Brian Devins: Just what I needed This is an app and not a widget which means I can trigger it from widgets like Zooper. Would be perfect if it didn't show up on the recent apps switcher screen.

A Google User: Xxx Easy enough for your mom to use. Nice.

A Google User: Doesn't work on HTC Sensation. Only the first time.
